Oceanic Time Warner Cable kicked off its new University of Hawaii sports channel with a match between the Rainbow Wahine and Washington State. Oceanic launched its new channel, officially named OC Sports, on Friday, August 19th.
"Our OCSports services were designed to shine a bright light on University of Hawai‘i athletics and to help make those athletic programs fantastic local entertainment options in Hawai‘i," said Oceanic's Bob Barlow.
The new network, which will air on channels 12 on regular cable and on 1012 in HD, will become the first regional sports network devoted to a specific university’s athletic program. OCSports will air about 100 live telecasts and repeat telecasts of UH sports, as well as other local programming.
"Hawai‘i fans have a unique relationship with University of Hawai‘i athletics, and we're pleased that our relationship with Oceanic Time Warner Cable will provide full access to our live sporting events," said UH Athletic Director Jim Donovan. "This is a long-term commitment built upon passion, professionalism, integrity and community. It's a win-win for everyone."
Oceanic is taking over production from its former partner, KFVE, the longtime carrier of UH sports.
