Hawaiian Telcom recently announced it will test a new video-on-demand (VOD) service by teaming up with VUDU, a California-based start-up comprised of consumer electronics and technology veterans. VUDU offers on-demand access to a growing collection of approximately 5,000 movies and a number of TV shows over a broadband connection.
"When powered by Hawaiian Telcom High-Speed Internet service, particularly the 7 or 11 Mbps service, the VUDU experience is incredible," said Hawaiian Telcom Vice President – Business Development Lester Chu.
"VUDU delivers what other companies dream about -- instant digital gratification. We're pleased to partner with Hawaiian Telcom to bring the next generation of video-on-demand service to the Islands," said VUDU Co-founder and EVP – Sales and Business Development Tony Miranz. "Our service is about simplicity, convenience, and maximizing the value of a quality broadband connection like Hawaiian Telcom’s High-Speed Internet."
VUDU provides instant access to thousands of new releases and classic movies from major studios, independent and international distributors. The company has been recognized for its large on-demand library, innovative user interface, elegant hardware design, and ease of use. VUDU lets consumers watch the movie, high-definition (HD) film, or TV show they want, when they want — no computer, software downloads, or cable TV service needed. Rental fees range from $0.99 to $3.99 per movie, film or show, and purchase prices range from $4.99 to $19.99.
