Hawaii Self Storage and Aiea Town Square announced Friday it will save more than $11 million in energy costs over the next 20 years thanks to seven commercial solar systems designed and installed by Hawaii-owned RevoluSun. Hawaii’s leading PV integrator was able to develop all seven systems in less than three months so that each went live by year-end and qualified for 2011 tax incentives.

“MW Group has been tracking the cost of a solar solution for 2.5 years and we have seen cost continue to drop. With today’s commoditization of the panels, and the efficiencies in scale by the local providers, costs are about 50 percent less than they were. Couple that with the existing federal grants, state tax credits/rebates and with historically low interest rates, it was the optimal time to go green,” said Steve Metter, CEO of MW Group, Ltd.

“We wanted to deploy solar for Hawaii Self Storage and Aiea Town Square – a total of seven properties –island-wide and we needed a company that was robust enough to design and install this massive project in a tight, 90-day window. We choose RevoluSun following an extremely competitive bid process. RevoluSun delivered with a ‘Can Do Attitude’, integrated design, purchasing power, construction management and an excellent installation team with American Piping & Boiler. Bottom-line, RevoluSun’s execution was flawless and all seven systems are now live.”

The $2.8 million project includes seven locations for a total system size of 760.92 kW. The seven sites use a total of 2,984 panels and the total electricity made each day could power 120 homes.

Check out the the 7 locations:

  • HSS Waialae – 2909 Waialae Ave, 119.34 kW, $55,580
  • HSS Salt Lake – 808 Ahua St., 119.34 kW, $55,948
  • HSS Pearl City – 98-138 Hila Pl., 119.34 kW, $56,267
  • HSS Mililani – 233 Akamainui Street, 119.34 kW, $50,545
  • HSS Kapolei – 488 Kamokila Blvd., 119.34 kW, $55,948
  • HSS Kapolei West – 2009 Lauwiliwili St.,119.34 kW, $55,338
  • Aiea Town Square – 99-080 Kauhale St., 44.88 kW, $21,401

TOTAL**
760.92 kW at $351,027

“As a Hawaii-owned company, we were thrilled to work with another local company to help them offset their energy usage through a RevoluSun solar system,” said Todd Georgopapadakos, RevoluSun Principal. “Our team worked tirelessly to get them done by year-end. In less than three months we were able to design, permit, obtain utility approval, procure equipment and build seven systems on seven sites. We finished ahead of schedule during our busiest time of year and they went live in time for Christmas. I was very proud of our tremendous effort.”

These seven systems will offset the burning of 3,000 barrels of oil per year, and keep 1.7 million tons of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere annually.
