Angry-looking birds with no visible legs or wings. This image, submitted by senior game designer Jaakko Iisalo for Rovio, sparked the creation and development of the hit mobile game app, Angry Birds.
In Angry Birds, the player takes control of literally angry birds, who are on a quest to rescue their clutch of hapless eggs from a gang of green appendageless pig-like creatures. Being without wings (or legs), the Angry Birds hurl themselves at their pig enemies using a huge slingshot appartus.
In an ironic twist on the famous Three Little Pigs fable, the pigs in Angry Birds are also seeking protection in shelters built from a variety of materials, such as wood, stone, and glass. However, in Angry Birds, the pigs are no longer the victims, but instead the perpetrators.
The Angry Birds consist of an assortment of birds in differents shapes and colors, each with a unique characteristics. One bird can split into three pieces, hitting multiple targets at once, while another can lay an explosive egg. Each stage predetermines which Angry Bird is available for that particular stage and the order that they can be used, but therein lies the strategy.
The objective for each stage is destroy all pigs, by either smashing them with your Angry Bird, or by having them squashed from falling debris as a result of your Angry Bird crashing through wooden, glass, and stone barriers. Your decision in where to aim your Angry Birds greatly impacts your chance of success in destroying all pigs.
After a stage is completed, you receive from 1 to 3 stars, based on how well you did, with one being the lowest and three being the highest. In order to get 3 stars, you must not only destroy all pigs, but you must also destroy a good portion of the items in that stage as well. Scoring 3 stars in ALL stages unlocks additional bonus levels.
Bonus levels are also unlocked through acquiring Golden Eggs. There are a multitude of Golden Eggs throughout the game. Most appear in difficult to reach locations within a stage, but some even appear outside the actual gameplay! You'll have to be clever to figure out the clues.
This great game is available for the following Apple products: iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch. In addition, Angry Birds is also available for all Android OS smartphones. There is nominal fee for purchasing the full version for Apple products, while the full version for the Android is free, albeit with ads. No matter which version you have, it's sure to delight you and your fingers for hours on end!
