Changing Their Company Name and Identity in the Process

That’s news to me
Akimeka, a Native Hawaiian health service information technology consulting company, announced in a press release that as of August, 2010 it had been acquired by Virginia-based VSE corporation, a federal services company. In a separate press release, Akimeka announced that they had changed their name to Ke ‘aki Technologies. The company formerly known as Akimeka, will stay intact as a subsidiary of VSE Corporation. This news comes after Pacific News Bytes Magazine wrote a five page spread featuring Akimeka for their success as a Hawaii-based technology company.

Old news is good news
Akimeka was picked as the cover story in the current edition of Pacific News Bytes Magazine because of their success and growth as a locally owned and operated company. At the time of this writing, the magazine has been printed but not released. In a sense, that makes the Pacific News Bytes story about Akimeka old news! But alas, here at Technology News Bytes we support our local businesses and any new news that’s good news for local business, is good news for us too.

What’s in a name
Akimeka has announced a company name change to Ke ‘aki. In a recent news release about the name change, Akimeka founder and CEO, Craig Floro said, “Ke`aki is a Hawaiian word that means ‘to reach for the top, to reach for the pinnacle.’ We believe that our new name helps to further distinguish us as an NHO-owned business and continues to reinforce our commitment to excellence and to the success of our customer’s mission.” The press release goes on to say that the Alaka’ina Foundation, a Native Hawaiian nonprofit corporation, is the majority owner of Ke ‘aki Technologies.
