Christmas was this past weekend. Hope everyone enjoyed it! I spent a good portion of my Sunday playing one of the best RPGs for the PC, Baldur's Gate. Baldur's Gate basically changed the way RPGs were done afterwards, for the PC at least. It won numerous awards and still holds a special place in many a gamer's heart.
I love this game, but actually haven't gotten around to completing it. The game came out over 10 years ago, but it can still stand the test of time, in my opinion. The game is based of the traditional RPG, Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, 2nd edition, or ADND 2nd Ed. Yes, very geeky, but that's who I am, LOL. The rules for Baldur's Gate are based on ADND 2nd Ed, which was the most popular pencil and paper RPG system around that time.
The setting for Baldur's Gate was a game world known as The Forgotten Realms. The Forgotten Realms is a fantasy world with a very deep and rich history and background. There are literally books and books worth of information covering the world, where even the most out of the way village or locale can have pages and pages written about it. The world is also populated by interesting and unique characters that are fairly well-known amongst fans of the fantasy genre, characters such as Drizzt, Mystra, and Elminster.
I have more to say on the subject of Baldur's Gate, but that'll have to wait for another blog entry!
