I really want to try out StarCraft II, but I'm probably one of the handful of people out there that have yet to finish StarCraft  and it's add-on, Brood Wars. I'm big into following storylines in games, so I didn't want to jump into StarCraft II without having completed StarCraft.

So I logged into my Battle.net account and proceeded to download StarCraft and Brood Wars. It didn't take too long, so once I finished, I did the installation. During the installation, I was asked for the installation key, which was conveniently stored on my Battle.net account. After inputing the installation key, I was done and started playing.

Starcraft has a pretty simple interface, which makes jumping back into the game relatively easy. I finished the tutorial in under 10 minutes, then proceeded to go through the Terran campaign. No hiccups occured during gameplay and I finished the first couple of missions without any problems. I logged off and then made plans to play again when I had free time.

Something must've happened to my laptop's setup between my first game and my second because I encountered the dreaded color glitch bug. Basically, this glitch is composed of StarCraft reverting back to 256 color-mode and displaying the colors incorrectly in a 32-bit color environment. I imagine this must be what the world looks like if you've been drugged or insane. A riot of blue, pinks, and greens cover the screen, making the game unplayable.

A quick google on the internet and I found that this was a fairly common problem with StarCraft being played on newer computers. There were many suggestions on fixes, but the one that was immediately successful was pushing the Windows key on the keyboard, which took me back to the desktop and then clicking on the minimized StarCraft window on the taskbar to bring me back into the game. After doing that, the colors returned to normal, but having to do that every couple minutes quickly grows old.

I'll be practicing more google-fu as I search for a better solution to this problem.
