Student Centered Learning

Student-centered learning puts more emphasis on the needs of the student by giving them a more active role in the educational process. Students are self-directed and more responsible for their own learning. This is in contrast to the old model where teachers disseminate information and students passively absorb information through note taking.

In the old model students are evaluated through tests. In the student-centered model they are project based and evaluated through presentations, documentation, communication and their ability to work in teams.

I was a Band Director for 10 years. After a short hiatus and upon completion of my M.Ed in Educational Technology I returned to the classroom where I taught technology classes at Mid-Pacific Institute. I am currently a Facilitator in the Weinberg Technology Plaza on the MPI campus.

Before returning to education I had a homebased business where I worked as a jewelry designer. Though I love working with kids and technology I spend most of my leisure time fishing, diving, gardening and yard work.
